The Austin High School Counseling Department is structured to serve students and families by dividing caseloads according to students last name. Counselors will remain with students for their entire high school career (9-12th grade).

FAFSA Workshops / Help Sessions
FAFSA Help Sessions, as part of Minnesota College Goal, will be offered in Room 151 of Austin High School at various times as listed below.
Austin High School, with the support of Riverland Community College, will be offering workshops on completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) starting in October. These are free of charge and will
offer an opportunity to gain helpful insight into filling out the FAFSA as well as ask questions.
There will be after school sessions on October 8 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm and October 10 from 3:00pm - 7:00pm.
New this year, a financial aid advisor from Riverland will be available to assist students from 1:30pm - 3:30pm at AHS on the following days:

Riverland Community College's annual College Fair will be held on Monday, October 7, 2019. The event runs from 12:30 to 2:00 pm. The College Fair features over 100 colleges. This is a great time for students and
families to gather college information. Juniors will be provided transportation and will be attending as part of their school day. Interested 10th and 12th graders wishing to attend need to secure their own
Tuesday, October 8, 2019 - Financial Aid Night
A representative from Riverland Community College will be at Austin High School's Christgau Hall at 6pm to share information about post-secondary financial aid and resources. Additional information will be coming out through a portal push
and at conferences.
Tuesday, October 8, 2019 - Mayo Health Care Career Festival
On Tuesday, October 8th, the Mayo Health Care Career Festival takes place in Rochester for interested 10th - 12th grade students. Interested students should see Ms. Mayers in the College & Career Center, room 151, to
register for this event. Pre-registration is required and space is limited. Deadline for sign-up is September 23rd at 5 pm. For more information on the event, please visit
Health Care Career Festival - Mayo Clinic
Wednesday, October 16, 2019 - PSAT
On Wednesday, October 16, 2019, the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) will be administered to interested Sophomores and Juniors.
The PSAT/NMQST is the only test that the Hormel Foods Corporation will accept for their scholarship program. These scholarships are available to the children of current, retired, or deceased employees of Hormel and its
subsidiaries. In no instance will any officer or employee of the Hormel Company play a part in the selection of scholarship winners or monies to be awarded. The NMSQT Corporation handles the entire award process.
Riverland Career Exploration Days
Juniors will have an opportunity to sign up for Riverland Community College's Career Exploration Day(s). These are interactive and engaging events to explore possible careers from 12:30 - 2:30 on the following dates:
- Albert Lea Campus - October 24: Manufacturing, building trades, transportation careers
- Owatonna Campus - November 7: Business, Accounting, Computer Science, Business & Office careers
- Austin Campus East - November 14: Liberal Arts, Transfer Pathways, 2 + 2 programs, Fine Arts, Personal Training & athletic careers
- Austin Campus West - November 20: Health & Human Services, Massage, Cosmetology, Public Safety, construction, Agriculture & Food Science
testing for qualified 10th and 11th grade students to determine PSEO eligibility/placement will take place from November through February. Students will be notified of their test date through their Connect teacher.
February 5th, 2020 - PSEO Informational Session - AHS Knowlton Auditorium - 6pm
Paul Anderson from Riverland Community College will provide valuable information about understanding and making decisions about the Post-Secondary Education Option (PSEO), including understanding the differences between concurrent classes
held onsite and classes at the college.

Wednesday, April 1st, 2020 - Junior Student and Parent Night
On Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. in Knowlton Auditorium, please plan to attend this informational session about details for the remainder of your student's Junior year and what to expect as they head into their
Senior year. Topics include details regarding the college application process, scholarships, FAFSA, transcripts and ACT. We will host a guest speaker from Riverland Community College to walk us through the process. The
program will last approximately 1 hour.
Parent Advisory Committee
meetings with Andrea Malo, AHS Principal, will be held on the first Wednesday of the month, at 12 p.m. in the Alumni Conference Room in the AHS Office.
Parent meetings in Spanish
hosted by Carla Conradt, Success coach, will be offered on the second Wednesday of the month, at 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. in the AHS Museum (no meetings in October, December, or March).
