Austin Is Science and Technology
At Austin Public Schools, technology is part of the learning experience in all our classrooms, enhancing student learning and engagement. APS prides itself on the strategic partnerships it has with our community organizations and provides students with opportunities to work and develop skills in both science and technology through:
- Technology at every grade level, with iPads integrated into K–4 classrooms and a 1:1 laptop program for all students in grades 5–12.
- Hands-on science exploration through field trips, visits to the Hormel Nature Center, and opportunities to learn in our school gardens and greenhouse.
- Robotics, computer science, and collaborative partnerships with the Hormel Institute.
- Support from the District Educational Technology Specialist who provides ongoing assistance to educators promoting effective and meaningful technology use in classrooms.
- Project Lead the Way (PLTW) in Grades 5–6, where students engage in hands-on, inquiry-based learning that builds foundational skills in engineering, design, problem‑solving, and technology, preparing them for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) opportunities throughout their secondary experience.
- Standards-based science instruction at each grade level, including dedicated instructional time with a science specialist in grades K–4.
- Project E3 and Discover Drones are inter-district STEM enrichment opportunities designed to build students' confidence in their ability to succeed in rigorous coursework and solve real-world problems.
STEM fields are among the fastest-growing careers today, and Packer Profile learning provides students with meaningful opportunities to explore these pathways. Students have access to a wide variety of science and technology experiences to support their curiosity and future goals.
