2024 School Board Elections

To determine whether being a school board member is right for you, you'll want to understand the duties and responsibilities of this nonpartisan position, the legal requirements for running for and holding office, and the process for running for election. You'll also want to consider the personal attributes needed to be an effective board member, including understanding the code of ethics by which you must abide once elected.

Policy Governance Model

As elected representatives on the Austin School Board, members make decisions about the district's policies, programs, people, and infrastructure. To provide the greatest possible education for all of our students, they keep the best interests of our school district in mind. Our new video highlights how the School Board's policy governance model operates.

What can you do to be ready to join the APS School Board?

You may want to consider meeting with the superintendent and school board chair to learn about the expectations of school board members in our school district. If you have any questions or would like to schedule a meeting, please call the Superintendent's Office at 507-460-1900.
