Welcome to the 2020-21 school year!
We were able to start this school year with a feeling of excitement and hope even greater than in a normal school year. Nothing since March had been normal. I am sure that like me, you were looking for a little bit of normalcy even if it was for a short time.
The Austin School District worked hard to develop plans to make sure all our students and staff were safe. To accomplish this, we followed the guidelines stated in the Fall School Opening Executive Order. Even with those guidelines, there were a lot of questions that remained, but we were able to partner with our local Mower County Community Health Department, Minnesota Department of Health and the Minnesota Department of Education to keep our schools open until Thanksgiving.
We also worked to provide the opportunity for our students to work with their teachers in the best learning scenarios possible. I am proud of the work our staff and students have completed up to this point in the school year and know through our Instructional Model change, quality teaching and learning will continue.
Be assured we want to get our students back to school as soon as possible and that can best be accomplished if we all follow safe habits and wear our masks. Together, we will continue to provide a safe environment with the highest quality Instructional Model possible in our current COVID environment.
