2026 School Facility Bond Referendum

Since 2023, the District has been studying the long-range facility needs at all schools. Facility experts, architects, and engineers completed an extensive facility assessment to understand the state of all building systems, infrastructure, finishes, and educational needs. The District has reviewed the findings and identified the most critical projects to ensure safe and effective learning environments.  

On November 3, voters in our community will be asked to consider a $24.9 million bond referendum to allow the District to complete the highest priority projects. The projects will:

IMPROVE SAFETY

  • Renovate entrances at identified schools to better welcome and monitor visitors  
  • Parking and sidewalk updates  
  • Add railings and guardrails 

INCREASE ACCESSIBILITY

  • Address site challenges with elevation changes

WHAT IS ON THE BALLOT?

Shall the board of Independent School District No. 492 (Austin), Minnesota be authorized to issue general obligation school building bonds in an amount not to exceed $24,900,000 for acquisition and betterment of school sites and facilities, including but not limited to safety, security, and accessibility improvements, building capital maintenance and infrastructure, classroom improvements and renovation, and pool improvements and renovations?
