About Our School

Banfield is in the southwestern part of Austin, housing approximately 478 students in grades 1 through 4. along with housing five sections of preschool. Banfield offers all students, music, art, and physical education specialists, on a rotating schedule in addition to their homeroom classes. Teachers use the Second Step curriculum and Zones of Regulation to support student’s social and emotional development. Banfield offers a Gifted and Talented program as well as an English Language Learner program. Banfield has a huge media center, two gymnasiums and an amazing playground. We strive to meet your students' educational, social, and emotional needs at Banfield.  

Our teachers are an outstanding staff of veteran and new educators, all with the desire to help each child succeed. We host an excellent Special Education Department, science specialists, educational assistants who are committed to student learning, and a support staff of food service, custodians, and office personnel all dedicated to helping students and families feel at home in Banfield. In addition, our parent organization is truly dynamic and involved with helping all students achieve academically and all families feel welcomed. 

Banfield is in our first year of implementing PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports). Banfield Elementary is a community of learners where every child matters. We inspire our Bobcats to be their BEST by establishing a safe and positive school environment. We encourage students to be their Banfield Best!

Attendance

Please call the office (507-460-1200) if your child will not be at school. You can call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If we are not available, please leave a message stating your child's name, grade and reason for absence from school. Your involvement is greatly appreciated!
